Benjamin Hale

Benjamin Hale is the author of the novel The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore and the short-fiction collection The Fat Artist. His writing has appeared in Harper’s, the Paris Review, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Conjunctions, and has been anthologized in The Best American Science and Nature Writing. He teaches at Bard College and lives in New York’s Hudson Valley. 
 
The true-crime story recounted in Cave Mountain: A Disappearance and a Reckoning begins in 2001 on Cave Mountain in the Arkansas Ozarks. Six-year-old Haley—the author’s cousin—gets lost on a mountain trail, prompting what was at the time the largest search and rescue mission in the state’s history. Her disappearance—and her account, after she was found, of the “imaginary friend” she met in the woods—eventually becomes connected to another story that took place in the same wilderness more than twenty years earlier: a dark and bizarre story of a cult, brainwashing, murder, and the apocalyptic visions of a teenage prophet. 

ASL interpretation will be provided for all Six Bridges sessions held in CALS Ron Robinson Theater. CALS will validate parking in the CALS Library Square surface lot and the CALS Parking Deck. The entrance to the surface lot is located on 2nd Street near River Market Ave. The entrance to the parking deck is located on Rock Street and can be accessed from President Clinton Ave. Street parking is also available throughout the River Market District (free after 6pm and on weekends).
