Learn to operate cameras, lights, audio, and grip gear in the CALS Production Studio. This hands-on training covers basic setup, shooting, and file handling, as well as rules for working in the space, so you can create and practice independently.


This hands-on training session is required for anyone who plans to use the CALS Production Studio or any of its video production equipment. Participants will learn the most essential skills and safety practices necessary to operate the cameras, lights, audio equipment, and grip equipment provided in the studio space.

Through guided demonstrations and practical exercises, you’ll find out how to properly handle the equipment available in the studio, along with some basic production best practices. You’ll also learn safe setup of stands and C-stands, proper cable management, and file handling for transferring and storing media.

Attendee Info

This session will take place in the Production Studio on the 5th floor of Main Library. Parking validation will be available for the Main Library parking deck or parking lot.

This training session includes a lunch break. (Lunch is on your own; food is not provided.)

Only CALS patrons with a current library card are eligible to use the Production Studio, even after taking this course. If you'd like to use the space, but don't yet have a library card, you can apply for one online or at your favorite CALS library.
