CALS Big Read programs invite participants to read and reflect on the poetry collection Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay. In this program, writers are encouraged to explore the themes of the book through their own poems.

Sandy Longhorn, University of Central Arkansas Associate Professor of Creative Writing, will guide participants in writing poems inspired by Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay, looking to everyday life for inspiration. This workshop will focus on key poetic elements such as imagery, sound, and metaphor, capturing concrete, specific details from the lives of participants as source material. Participants will receive a free copy of Gay's book.

CALS Big Read 2026 is a month-long celebration of the poetry collection Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay. We are hosting a series of programs to inspire meaningful conversation, explore creativity, and build community. 

NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
