"No other environmental-based film has you leaving with so much hope and optimism for the future. The documentary was clever, precise, and entertaining. Everybody left with an idea for personal change. Alex and his work are truly inspiring."-Meghann Cranford, Sustainability Club President, University of Wyoming

ABOUT THE FILM

We live in challenging times. Waste from mass consumption has led to pollution and climate change, that is threatening human survival and our planet's existence. While recognition and awareness are important, direct action is by far more effective. But traditional recycling has not been the solution that we were led to believe.

The solution is simple and it’s "nothing new"... REUSE! Reuse offers a more sustainable solution that everyone can be a part of.

REUSE Because You Can't Recycle The Planet. follows reuse edutainer Alex Eaves' cross-country adventure to the 48 contiguous U.S. states. On his journey, Alex finds endless reusable solutions for our waste problem that are not only sustainable, but many of which are easy and fun. And he learns just how reuse truly benefits our people, our planet, and our wallet.

This documentary isn't about our waste problem. It's about solutions. And they are everywhere!

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Alex Eaves is a reuse edutainer who embodies the reuse lifestyle. He has been successfully helping people combat the worldwide waste problem for over two decades by connecting them with reuse solutions. In 2003, Alex created the skateboard and clothing brand STAY VOCAL, and reuse was a large part of the brand’s messaging. In 2008, Alex won a national "Best Small Business Idea" Award when he switched the brand to an entirely reuse clothing brand. That same year, Alex began leading a “reuse life; ”avoiding disposables and finding reuse solutions for his needs and wants.

This passion soon began to be an influence on many, and in 2009, Eaves began giving talks and leading workshops around the U.S. In 2014, he became a certified Master Reuser by the Reuse Institute and a year later, he released the documentary, REUSE! Because You Can't Recycle The Planet. Since the release, Alex has traveled the U.S. extensively for screenings and talks, including a month-long nationwide tour.

In 2016, Alex launched his follow-up to the REUSE! Documentary. He teamed up with tiny house builder Derek "Deek" Diedricksen to turn a box truck into a 98-square-foot tiny house and mobile reuse education center. The REUSE! Box Truck was completed in 2017, and The Box Truck Film was released in 2022. In 2024, Alex launched his reuse edutaiment hub, Escape the Waste.
