This program is a part of the CALS 2026 Big Read featuring Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, a collection of poetry by Ross Gay. Participants will explore the themes of Gay's work in their own writing.
April is the perfect time to take a look outside and get inspired to read and write! Let’s explore the poetry of Ross Gay and some of the various plants you can see and read about on the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas. We’ll read some of Gay’s work for inspiration, use some interesting plant names and images as writing prompts, write whatever we like, and review what we wrote!
Led by J. Jobe. Brought to you by the CALS Writing Circle and the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas (housed at the CALS Roberts Library).
CALS Big Read 2026 is a month-long celebration of the poetry collection Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay. We are hosting a series of programs to inspire meaningful conversation, explore creativity, and build community. Participants in this workshop will receive a free copy of the book.

The tenth library in the Central Arkansas Library System was dedicated in Sue Cowan Williams’s honor on March 22, 1997. Fittingly, the Sue Cowan Williams Library serves the community near the historic Dunbar High School building in downtown Little Rock, where Williams taught. Today at the Williams Library, patrons can see the same commitment to education and equal opportunity that inspired Sue Cowan Williams to take a stand. Williams offers a wide range of programs for children and teens.
