From 2001 until 2021, CALS operated a used bookstore called River Market Books & Gifts in the Cox Creative Center located at 120 River Market Ave. From 2021 until 2023, the used bookstore was located on the first floor of the Bobby L. Roberts Library of Arkansas History & Art. (The bookstore closed in May 2023 to make way for “Mini Main” during the two-year renovation of the Main Library.) Library Square Books is also connected to the first floor of Roberts Library, formerly occupied by 4square Cafe & Gifts.
In addition to the bookstore, CALS plans to resume the popular used book sale later this year.
“For the past several months, we’ve been preparing for the exciting moment when we could welcome everyone to Library Square Books,” said Jessica Scott, CALS Used Book Sale & Store Manager. “It’s been a fulfilling experience to help create a space for the community that brings the used bookstore experience back to downtown. We can’t wait for everyone to browse the shelves, discover their next great read, and welcome back the beloved used book sale.”
